Prostitutes Protest After New Law Was Passed Banning Sex

Prostitutes in France have been protesting in front of the National Assembly building in Paris , after  a new law was passed that penalizes the patronage of prostitutes. On Wednesday, the French Parliament passed a new law which makes it illegal to pay for sex making France the 5th European country criminalizing prostitutes after Sweden, Norway, Iceland and the U.K.

In the new law, pimping and brothel is illegal. Is legal to offer your body, but illegal to pay for it.

People found wanting maybe fined up to €3,750 (about $4,300) and required to attend classes about the conditions of sex workers.
the law also created a space for prostitutes, in helping them find a new job, and makes it easier for foreign sex workers to acquire temporary residency permits.

The socialist governor of France, welcomed the new idea. The bill’s architect Maud Olivier told AFP: “This law is essential to ending the idea that it is normal to buy someone’s body.”

"The goal is to diminish [prostitution], protect prostitutes who want to quit, and change mentalities. We will succeed in changing the mentality, but new efforts are needed to raise awareness, to train police officers and magistrates.”

But some prostitutes in France over 30,000, did not share the idea of Olivier. Over 60 demonstrators including sex workers protested in front of the National Assembly building with a sign card saying.
“Don’t Liberate Me, I’ll Take Care of Myself!”
